For Parents
What to Do With Kids on School Early Release Days
School lets out at noon and work does not. Here are practical ideas for early release afternoons, including a coached program at HUB.

Early release days are a puzzle for working parents. School ends at noon, but the workday does not. Here are a few ways families handle it.
Plan ahead
Check your district's calendar at the start of the year and mark every early release day. Many districts have a Wednesday pattern, plus extra conference and half days.
Ideas that work
- Swap with another family. Trade afternoons so each parent covers one day.
- Library or rec center programs. Check your town's schedule early because spots fill.
- Activity programs. Sports gyms and clubs often run afternoon programs.
- Grandparents and sitters. A standing plan makes each day easier.
The HUB Early Release Day Program
At HUB Sudbury and HUB Norfolk, we run a coached afternoon for ages 7 and up. Kids do homework, play open gym games, take a snack break, and work on skills before the 5:00 PM youth class. Pickup is by 6:00 PM. Each gym runs on the days nearby schools have early release or no school.
Find your district on the Early Release Days page to see which dates we offer. It is a parkour program, not licensed child care.
Ready to try it yourself?
Coach-led parkour for ages 4 through adult, at our Sudbury and Norfolk gyms.
